paris vs new york
Love this concept of comparing two of the world's most dynamic, beautiful cities side by side. A year or two in Paris sounds pretty tempting.....

i remember
On September 11, 2001- my world changed, your world changed, OUR world changed. The lens I viewed my life and humanity through suddenly became obscured. I had just begun my junior year of high school and was engrossed in field hockey, comparative literature, prospective colleges and sophomoric tendencies of a 16 year-old teenage youth. As innocence was lost; consternation was gained.
Today, ten years later I hope we can all reflect and realize that we should love and remember those we lost in a way that honors them; rather than stir up sentiments of ignorance and malevolence that sadly was the motivation behind the tragedy in the first place.

novacane
Love it when you find a song that you can play on repeat over and over again. Frank Ocean is the man, plain and simple. Download his album Nostalgia/ultra. This is hands down the best R&B since Maxwell and Rapahel Saadiq. Note: Mayer Hawthorne is a close second.

marvin, kurt, and jim
Spotted this and thought it was definitely worth sharing. My favorites are Marvin Gaye, Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison. Can only hope it's creator takes this a step further and conceptualizes one for females in the music industry. Think of the possibilities: Janis Joplin, Diana Ross, Madonna, Billie Holiday, Steve Nicks, the list goes on....

anne.
Came across this vintage Japanese Annie Hall poster and thought it appropriate to share as (1) Japan is all over the media these days due to recent catastrophic tragedy and (2) Annie Hall is one of my absolute favorite films. This brings a smile to my face....I hope it does the same for you.

marcel the shell with shoes on
"One time I looked at a diamond and it gave me a sunburn"
This is too silly not to share. You must watch it twice. Hope you get as many ridiculous giggles out of this as I did.

the exploding girl
The Exploding Girl is lovely and languorous as its sentiment is very true and quite tender. Zoe Kazan's character study of Ivy is rather profound as her emotions aren't expressed through words but rather silences. The overall effect of this film is quite powerful as we all know what it feels like to have someone be so close and yet so far. I am a fan.

disco swimming
Tis moonlight, summer moonlight
Tis moonlight, summer moonlight,
All soft and still and fair;
The solemn hour of midnight
Breathes sweet thoughts everywhere,
But most where trees are sending
Their breezy boughs on high,
Or stooping low are lending
A shelter from the sky.
And there in those wild bowers
A lovely form is laid;
Green grass and dew-steeped flowers
Wave gently round her head.

Are you familiar? If not; you should be. Go see this and fall in love with Basquiat and his work all over again. Brilliant.

a season for strawberries
"The more genuine part of my life is unrecognizable, extremely intimate and impossible to define."
-Clarice Lispector, The Hour of the Star
If you haven't already had the pleasure-you must read this haunting narrative. Perhaps the greatest female Latin American prose writer of our time; Clarice Lispector pens her final masterpiece with imagination and compassion. A tale of love, identity, and sorrow; The Hour of the Star is a work of fiction that is made for this day, this season, this lifetime.
